IT Specialist
Lebanon and Tazewell, VA
As the IT Specialist you will be responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing hardware & software components of the organization’s computers. You will also support these systems through remote access or site visits as needed by management teams within our company. You will be responsible for protecting all digital assets and their users, working MSP to ensure that networks are safe from external threats such as hackers or crackers who try to gain access for malicious purposes.
Responsibilities:

Setting up workstations with computers and necessary peripheral devices

Checking computer hardware (HDD, mouses, keyboards etc.) to ensure functionality

Installing and configuring appropriate software and functions according to specifications

Develop and maintain local networks in ways that optimize performance

Ensure security and privacy of networks and computer systems

Provide orientation and guidance to users on how to operate new software and computer equipment

Organize and schedule upgrades, training, bulletins and maintenance without deterring others from completing their work

Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems (repair or replace parts, debugging etc.)

Maintain records/logs of repairs and fixes and maintenance schedule

Identify computer or network equipment shortages and place orders
-
Work with MSP to implement and maintain security controls
-
Work with MSP to conduct periodic security audits to determine security violations and shortcomings. This responsibility includes activities such as penetration testing.

Perform research, evaluation, testing, and deployment of new security technology and procedures

Work with MSP to respond to all security threats, attacks, and similar events
-
Create and enforce information security guidelines, standards, and procedures
-
Upgrade the network and infrastructure systems
-
Work with MSP to grant appropriate permissions and privileges to all authorized users
-
Identify and resolve potential and actual security issues
-
Assess the organization’s current security situation, evaluate trends, and anticipate future security requirements
-
Keep organization members informed by releasing performance reports and communicating system status
-
Keep their cybersecurity knowledge current by participating in workshops or continuing education classes
-
Any other job assigned by Supervisor
Requirements:
-
A bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, information systems, information technology, telecommunications, computer engineering, or any related field. Alternatively, some equivalent education or work experience.

At least one year’s verifiable work experience as a cybersecurity specialist or similar role.

Hands-on experience in analyzing large amounts of network data, logs, and other attack artifacts
-
Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
-
Outstanding organizational and time-management skills
-
In-depth understanding of diverse computer systems and networks
-
Knowledge of network security, penetration testing, and techniques used to expose and correct security flaws
-
Knowledge of program coding (SQL, C++)
-
Experience with vulnerability scanning solutions
-
A broad understanding of security technologies such as antivirus software, firewalls, proxies, SIEM, and IDPs
-
Familiarity with operating systems such as Windows, Linux, and MacOS. Being familiar with mobile operating systems such as Android and iOS would also be wise
